      WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
    To provide participants with an introduction to college and university accounting concepts and the basic format used by public and private institutions in their financial statements. This workshop is hosted by the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) and is part of their on-going educational programs.

      INTENDED AUDIENCE:
    College and university accounting and financial administrators

      Speakers:
    Charles Tegen, Comptroller at Clemson University. Charles will instruct the public institution track of the workshop focusing on GASB reporting requirements.
    Tom Guinan, Associate Controller at Notre Dame University. Tom instructs the private institution track of the workshop focusing on FASB reporting requirements.
    Larry Goldstein, President of Campus Strategies, will present a morning and an afternoon session on Financial Ratio Analysis. This will be a "hands on" session and participants are invited to bring three years' worth of their institution's financial statements.

      CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION CREDITS:
    CACUBO is pleased to sponsor continuing education for the higher education community. Participants in the Introduction to Higher Education Accounting Workshop who wish to apply for CPE credit with their professional organizations can obtain a certificate or letter of completion at the end of the workshop. The maximum number of CPEs you can apply for is based on (1) one CPE for each 50 minutes of schedule programming, and (2) a participant attending all scheduled programming. 12 CPE credits will be awarded for attendees.

    Early registration is strongly encouraged as enrollment is limited in each public and private school session. Registration will close on (DTBD).

    The workshop will be held at the Chicago O'Hare Marriott on May 17 and 18, 2010. This has been the location of the workshop in the recent past and last year's participants were very complimentary of the facilities and food. The price of the rooms has been held at the 2009 price level of $154 per night.

    The speakers for the 2010 workshop are:

    The traditional workshop lasts a day and a half with participants attending the track (GASB or FASB) applicable to their responsibilities at their educational institution. Participants are given excellent materials and the GASB/FASB instructors use power point presentations to illustrate the various topics covered. A wealth of material is covered in the day and a half sessions and the speakers incorporate adequate time for questions.

    A new half-day session on financial statement ratio analysis is being offered. Participants in the FASB/GASB workshop will have the opportunity to register for the Tuesday afternoon session. The Tuesday morning ratio analysis session is being offered for individuals not attending the FASB/GASB workshop tracks.
