The 2009 CACUBO annual meeting was held at Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, KY, October 3-5, 2009. The meeting provided an electric program that covered an extensive array of themes, ideas, and viewpoints in its four general and 35 concurrent session topics. Kathy Qualls and her program committee is to be commended for their hard work and the great speakers they made available to the attendees.

The meeting opened with an update by NACUBO president John Walda and keynote address presented by Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher titled Building Bridges for Economic Prosperity: The Education Imperative. Dr. Zimpher warned us of the dangers due to leakage in the P-20 pipeline and challenged our institutions to take a more active role in finding a solution. The first day concluded with two sets of concurrent sessions on a wide array of topics, followed by a reception at the Freedom Center, a wonderful and educational venue.

Day two began with lively caucus discussions over breakfast, followed by an excellent general session where Dr. Thomas E. Hall, Professor of Economics at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio discussed the changing factors that increasingly tie the prosperity of Higher Education to the business cycle and told us to buckle our seatbelts. The remainder of the day was filled with great concurrent sessions and networking during breaks.

Tuesday began with Maddy Dychtwald talking about the impact of our changing demographics on retirement followed by many more great sessions on a variety of topics. Our closing session was a keynote address by Frank Abagnale. His presentation on fraud was absolutely wonderful. It was informative and educational with lots of tidbits on how to protect ourselves and our institutions from fraud, and its changing face in the light of new technologies.
