CACUBO’s Higher Education Accounting Workshop is designed to give participants an overview of college and university accounting concepts, as well as the basic format institutions use to present their financial statements.
As the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) introduce changes to accounting standards, the CACUBO Higher Education Accounting Workshop keeps you up-to-date on the latest requirements. We also offer time for participants to discuss the issues they’re facing and practical ways to implement new standards.

There are sessions dedicated to the practical application of GASB and FASB accounting concepts, for both state and private colleges and universities.
2018 Higher Education Accounting Workshop
The 2018 Higher Education Accounting Workshop was held in Omaha, Nebraska, at the brand new Omaha Marriott Downtown Hotel in the Capitol District. The live event was geared for all knowledge levels and had no prerequisite requirements. Participants attending the workshop were eligible to earn up to 17 hours of CPE credits.
The CACUBO program featured both GASB and FASB tracks for both state and private institutions. The tracks were designed to give participants an overview of college and university accounting concepts, as well as, a synopsis of the basic formats used by higher education institutions when presenting their financial statements. The featured concurrent tracks also delved into the recent changes by GASB and FASB to accounting standards and the anticipated effects of those changes within the higher education industry. In addition to the featured tracks, participants had a choice of a half day of additional GASB content or a half day workshop on Key Performance Measures using their own institution’s financial statements. Also, back by popular demand for 2018, was the expanded afternoon “Hot Topic” sessions. These sessions encompassed the topics of Endowments, Financial Modeling, Overall Higher Ed Issues, and Fraud/Cybersecurity.

CACUBO Higher Ed Accounting Committee
The Higher Ed Accounting Committee is a three-member group of volunteers from member institutions and their key task is to plan, supervise, and evaluate the annual workshop. The membership term on this committee is three year, and we are always looking for new volunteers with fresh ideas.
